Hernandez Brings Unfinished Business to Indy

INDIANAPOLIS – Josh Hernandez has a clearly defined objective this weekend during the seventh stop of the ten-race AMS NHRA Pro Modified Challenge at the U.S. Nationals. The second-year driver for the AMS Rage Pro Modified team wants to prove that he can resume the momentum he established two weekends ago in Memphis, Tenn.

Blame it on the rain.

Hernandez was one of eight first-round winners during the O’Reilly NHRA Mid-South Nationals that could only watch as torrential rains postponed the balance of eliminations until this weekend in Indianapolis.

“We are really tuned in to what we need to accomplish,” Hernandez said. “This makes for a longer weekend from an already long weekend. We have had an off-weekend to prepare for this challenge. Nothing would make our season more than winning twice this weekend.”

Hernandez produced the third quickest winning elapsed time in the opening round after defeating Steve Engel. He was the fourth qualifier amongst 40 cars in attendance.

The success was the continuation of prosperity that began just a week earlier in Martin, Michigan. During that weekend, Hernandez captured his second consecutive IHRA national event victory in as many races. He also snagged a speed world record as the icing on the proverbial cake.

“It’s just a testament to the quality of team we have assembled here,” Hernandez said. “Howard Moon does an incredible job of orchestrating this team. His leadership is more than an asset to the team.”

Hernandez is the defending low qualifier of this weekend’s U.S. Nationals.
