Rain forces Memphis completion at US Nationals in Indy

(8-20-2006) - After one round of eliminations in the AMS Staff Leasing Pro Modified Challenge presented by RPM Depot at the O'Reilly Midsouth Nationals in Memphis, Tenn., heavy rain forced the delay of all racing for more than six hours. Because of event and television scheduling conflicts and with the agreement of the eight remaining teams, the event will be completed during Pro Mod qualifying at the Mac Tools US Nationals at Indianapolis August 30 - September 3.

"With things as questionable right now with the weather, NHRA wasn't sure when the event would be completed, and said they had no problem at all with us opting to finish at Indy," said Matthew Brammer, Pro Mod Series Director.

"From my perspective, this is the best move for all of the teams, for a lot of reasons. One, it's extremely important to put on a good show for the fans, and with the possibility of not running until late at night or in the early hours of the morning, the fan exposure will be minimal. Two, the quality of the television program would be low because everything would be shot at night with limited light.

"Three, the opportunity to get "double exposure" in Indy is great for our whole series in general - giving more exposure and focus at the biggest race in drag racing. That definitely can't hurt - even if the eliminations are run during the regularly scheduled qualifying runs," he said

According to Brammer, the eliminations will be contested during the second, thrird and fourth qualifying runs at Indianapolis Raceway Park.

"I'm working hard with the teams to add value to everything we are doing so that as we continue to work on the future of the class, we can offer all of our teams and sponsors the very best return we can give them," Brammer said.

"Grahm Light and all of the folks in the tower have been incredibly helpful and accommodating with us, and I think this will really turn out good for all of us," he said.
