Hernandez makes
2006 IHRA eMax Drag Racing
Series debut in Rockingham
ROCKINGHAM, NC –
AMS Rage driver Josh Hernandez entered
the 2006 season knowing full well that
he’d get more than his fare share of
drag racing action. As the rig pulls
out of Conroe, Texas headed for
Rockingham, NC., for the Nick’s NY
Style Pizza IHRA Spring Nationals,
Hernandez will compete in his seventh
national event under three different
sanctioning bodies in just over a
month.
The end result is
that Hernandez leads one series and
second in another. Hernandez will face
another challenge as he enters
the latest event on the eleven-race
IHRA eMax Drag Racing Series. The
IHRA’s Torco Race Fuels Pro Modified
program ranks as one of the toughest
in the sport.
“The IHRA Torco
Race Fuels division is tough, but when
it travels into Rockingham, that
intensifies things even further,”
Hernandez said. “This will be a great
challenge for us and one we are
looking forward to with the AMS Rage
team.
“Crewchief Howard
Moon is very familiar with Rockingham
and I am looking forward to the
weekend. It ought to be interesting.”
Outside of having
the 1968 Camaro’s theme focused on
Moon with the “Dr. Moon’s Rage”, the
veteran tuner made a name for himself
in helping to propel Von Smith to
three world championships and two
event wins at Rockingham Dragway.
Hernandez has
proven to be more than a capable
driver for Moon to guide to success.
Already this season, Hernandez has
reached the finals three times and
emerged successful twice.
Hernandez reached
the finals in four NHRA AMS Pro
Modified Challenge events in 2005 and
walked away with the 2005 NHRA AMS
Rookie of the Year accolades. Moon
also scored the Crewchief of the Year
honors as well.
“I can’t begin to
tell you how much confidence having a
crewchief like Howard Moon instills in
a driver,” Hernandez said. “The guy is
a master at reading the car and the
track. Nobody can find a happy medium
like Howard Moon.”
