Hernandez looking forward to hometown Houston experience

HOUSTON, Texas (03-02-2006) – Some drivers draw added pressure from racing at home but then there are those such as Conroe, Texas-based Josh Hernandez who often gain enthusiasm and personal motivation from such an element. The second-year driver of the Dr. Moon's Rage Pro Modified entry will be racing at Houston Motorsports Park for this weekend’s Flowmaster American Drag Racing League’s RacingJunk.com Dragpalooza event.

Hernandez is more than cool, calm and collected than one would envision for a driver performing at his sponsor’s event in front of a hometown crowd. "The support of the Houston fans just drives me to be more focused on performing at my best."

“This is an exciting endeavor for us to be working with the RacingJunk.com team. Winning against the best in the ADRL’s Pro Extreme class would be a huge momentum builder for our team.”

Hernandez opened his 2006 ADRL season two weeks ago in Valdosta, Ga., with a quarter-final finish in a field that produced an unheard-of 14 three-second runners.

Hernandez is driving the same car that propelled him to Rookie of the Year accolades on the NHRA tour. This same trusty ride also produced four national event victories and four pole positions in 2005, one of which was the prestigious NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis.

Even though he has a new Camaro earmarked for IHRA and NHRA competition in 2006, the 1957 Chevy will still do battle on the ever-tough Flowmaster ADRL campaign.

“She’s a fighter,” Hernandez said, speaking about the ’57 Chevy. “This old hot rod still has plenty of fight in it. We have just found that it is better in the long run to have purpose built racecars for each series. It saves us the trouble of having to switch combinations for every different sanctioning body and series we run.

“ADRL events are essentially eighth-mile, no-holds-barred races. This ’57 Chevy pulls no punches. It was a mean hot rod back in the Fifties and Sixties and even four decades later, it’s still one fierce machine.”
