Hernandez burns up
the track, even in the Eye of the Storm
Belle Rose, Louisiana – (July 9,
2005) – Joshua Hernandez once again burned up the track in
qualifying at the Torco Gear Summer Drags at No Problem
Raceway in Belle Rose, Louisiana. Hernandez grabbed the
No. 1 in his Tommy Lipar Racing Dr. Moon’s Rage ’57 Bel
Air, and extended his points lead in the FLOWMASTER Pro
Mod CLASH bonus event competition.
Although the event was canceled due
to rain after having contested only one round of
eliminations, Hernandez success continued as he took out
St. Louis winner Glen Kerunsky in the first round with a
6.310 second 222.03 mile per hour pass over Kerunsky’s
tire-shaking 10.158/84.78 lap.
“I guess you could say, ‘To be
continued’,” Hernandez said. “I’m really disappointed that
we couldn’t have gotten any further though the bracket –
Howard [Moon, Crew Chief] had things so dialed in – even
with difficult weather conditions.
“We took a challenging track and
definitely made things work,” he said.
“Qualifying number one was one good
thing that came from this weekend – and it definitely
helped us in the CLASH points,” he said. “We’ve been so
consistent on the track, I’m excited for the rest of the
season.”
Hernandez has qualified first,
third, second, and first in the last four TLR/AMS Pro Mod
Challenge events. Including his 16 points for finishing
No. 1 at the Summer Drags, he has 113 points in the
Flowmaster Pro Mod CLASH competition, 10 more than
second-place Mike Ashley.
“This makes Columbus twice the race
for us – and being on the top of the ladder going in is a
great place to be,” Hernandez said.
“Now we just have to get out of town
before the sky starts to fall,” he said.
The remaining rounds of eliminations
for this event will be completed during qualifying July
28-31 at the NHRA SPORTSnationals in Columbus, Ohio.
