Hernandez Qualifies Fifth in his First Gatornationals

GAINESVILLE, FL. - Josh Hernandes took Tommy Lipar Racing’s Dr. Moon’s Revenge to the No. 5 qualifying position in his first AMS event of his freshman year in Pro Modified. Hernandez blistered the track with 6.19 second, 228.89 mile per hour second qualifying run, earning the No. 5 position at the 36th annual Mac Tools Gatornationals in Gainesville Fla.

Paired against Kirk Kuhns in the first round of eliminations, Josh was looking to back up his impressive qualifying run on a very good track and excellent weather conditions. After an impressive launch and initial incrementals, things started to go bad for Hernandez at about 300 feet.

“I was lined up a little crooked, and that aggravated the situation. The car started to shake the tires and it made a move on me. I pushed the button and got over to the wall, so I got out of it. When I didn’t see Kurt next to me, I tried to get back in it, but I was just so far out of the groove that it got upset and shook some more. Right as I was getting back on the throttle he went on by me and I just said, ‘I’m done.’

“We were ready to race, we had her tuned up and I was ready to run a good number tonight, and the short numbers proved it. I overpowered the track. I just have to chalk this one up as a learning experience, “Hernandez said.

“I had a really good run this weekend – qualifying fifth at my first AMS event. I’m pumped up and extremely positive, and looking forward to Houston,” Hernandez said.
