Early eliminations
battle rages on with Mitch Stott
July 18, 2004 - Milan, Michigan
- Von Smith found himself again facing the reigning IHRA
Pro Modified World Champion Mitch Stott in this Sunday's
eliminations. The two have met in early eliminations
four times now in 2004 with Stott a 2-1 favorite.
After a best qualifying effort of 6.31 seconds, Dr. Moons
Rage 2004 Mustang was lined up in the 15th qualifying
position facing Stott's #2 qlifying run of 6.23 seconds
for the first round on Sunday. The race was a good
one, with both cars running together nearly the entire
length of the track. A little wobble at about the
150' mark cost Smith the precious ET needed to better
Stott's 6.286 pass and sends the RAGE team home with a
6.296 second pass. Event winner Al Billes has moved
into second place in IHRA point standings. Tommy
Lipar Racing prepares for it's next event in Grand Rapids
Michigan in a few weeks.
