TLR sends heartfelt condolences to Russell family

The members of Tommy Lipar Racing, our associates, friends and members of the Pro Modified racing community would like to send our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Top Fuel racer Darrell Russell of Hockley, TX.  Darrell was fatally injured on Sunday while in competition at the St. Louis race when he was involved in a horrible crash at the finish line at over 300 miles per hour.  While no words can express such a loss to his family and the racing community, we hope this message lends a moment of comfort as we are truly saddened by this tragic loss.

Von Smith Makes Final Round Appearance

06-27-2004 - Madison, IL. - After defeating Rickie Smith in the first round with low ET of eliminations 6.174, Von Smith met St. Louis local Zach Barklage in round two.  The local favorite appeared to have ignition problems as he left the starting line and sent Von on to the final round against Gotham City Racing's Danny Rowe.  The final round came down to a great drag race as both competitors left the line about the same time with Danny Rowe just edging out Von Smith at the finish line with a 6.209 ET to Von's 6.240.

Von and the team prepare for the long journey to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada for IHRA competition next weekend.

Final Qualifying Effort Finds TLR Holding at #3

06-26-2004 - Madison, IL. - Despite a struggling effort in the first three qualifying sessions, Von Smith and the TLR gang post an exciting #3 qualifying effort in the last session of the Sears Craftsman Nationals Saturday night.  The excitement came from Von's incredible driving prowess coming to light as he piloted Tommy Lipar's Mustang to a respectable 6.20 second ET as his opponent, Troy Critchley of the series sponsor AMS Staff Leasing, got way out of shape and crossed the centerline, sending the 330-foot timing block soaring into Von's lane.  Luckily, Von was ahead and on his way to another successful qualifying effort.  Series point leader Al Billes failed to qualify and leaves the Lipar team as the only Pro Modified entry to qualify for every race in 2004.  Von faces "Tricky" Rickie Smith in the first round of competition beginning Sunday evening at 4:30 pm.
