2nd
Round Blues Plague Team Lipar
Grand Bend, Ontario, Canada - June
13, 2004 - Many racers will tell you that
consistency is an important key to winning races.
For team Lipar, this has become a haunting statement.
Dr. Howard Moon and his crew are no stranger to
consistency, they have consistently qualified for every
IHRA and NHRA event entered in the 2004 season and, in the
recent past, consistently set low E.T. for either a
qualifying or elimination round at each race and
consistently won the first round of eliminations. It
seems as though consistency eludes the team right around
the time for second round of eliminations though, or it is
possibly "shanghai'd" by one of the many gremlins that
have plagued the team in 2004. Today would be no
exception. Following a first round, low ET of
eliminations victory over Tom Carter at this weekends
Mopar Canadian Nationals, Von Smith found himself again
facing the reigning IHRA Pro Modified Champion Mitch
Stott. Von's Mustang smoke the tires almost
immediately after leaving the starting line giving the win
to Stott and sending the team back to the trailer shaking
their heads. The team now eagerly prepares for
battle next weekend June 18 - 20 in Englishtown, NJ at the
NHRA K&N Filters Supernationals where the team's new found
determination plans to win over their ol' bad luck.
Von Smith ends qualifying with #2 spot
Grand Bend, Ontario, Canada - June
12, 2004 - The results for the second round of
qualifying finds Von Smith and Dr. Moon's Rage in the top
spot only to be bumped to #2 in the final qualifying
session. Von's 6.224 (228.48 mph) in the second round of
qualifying held up through final qualifying, save one.
Shannon Jenkins' 6.221 second ET was just enough to better
Von's second round pass. Von faces Tom Carter in the
first round of eliminations.
Dr. Moons Rage Makes Canadian Debut
Grand Bend, Ontario, Canada - June
12, 2004 - Following a record setting weekend and
second round appearance at the AC Delco Nationals in
Richmond, VA, Dr. Moon and the Rage crew cross the
Canadian Border for the first appearance of Tommy Lipar's
2004 Mustang on the international race scene.
Confidence is high as the team seems to have a handle on
the recent rule change limiting supercharger overdrive and
was proven by the Mustang's number one qualifying
performance in Virginia. Friday qualifying session,
under less than ideal weather conditions, found several
racers overpowering the track and Von Smith was no
exception. Saturday's weather looks promising so
stay tuned for all of the qualifying action.
